Understand the True Soul of Bali Through Our Sacred Art
Every single morning across Bali, you will see local women placing small, colorful palm-leaf baskets on temples, doorways, family shrines, and even on clean pavements. These beautiful creations are called Canang Sari, the daily offerings that form the heartbeat of Balinese spiritual life. They represent gratitude, balance, and a continuous connection with the divine.
As a licensed boutique Travel Agency Ubud, we believe that cultural understanding goes far deeper than taking a quick photograph. Our private offering making workshop is held in our quiet, ancestral family compound in Taro village, near Tegallalang. Guided by our family elders, you will learn to hand-weave these delicate palm-leaf structures from scratch, uncovering the beautiful philosophy, colors, and rituals behind every single element.
Your Offering Making Workshop Experience
This private workshop is slow-paced, relaxing, and highly interactive. You will work at your own comfortable speed under the patient, expert guidance of our family members:
1. Warm Compound Welcome & Refreshments
Arrive at our traditional home compound in Taro to receive a refreshing, cold herbal welcome drink and fresh Balinese sweets. We will guide you on a short walk through our ancestral courtyard, explaining the layout of our family temple and how we live in harmony with our natural surroundings.
2. Selecting and Preparing Fresh Palm Leaves
Learn how we harvest and select clean coconut palm leaves from our village trees. Your host will show you how to split, slice, and trim the young green leaves using small traditional knives, preparing them for weaving.
3. Weaving the Ceper (The Square Base)
Master the steady, rhythmic techniques of weaving palm leaves to form the square box-like base (ceper) of the offering. This base represents the physical world and the steady foundations of life.
4. Selecting and Placing Symbolic Flowers
Discover the deep, hidden meanings behind the colors of the flowers placed inside the offering. Each direction represents a different sacred force:
- White Flowers: Pointing east, representing peace and clarity.
- Red Flowers: Pointing south, representing power and warmth.
- Yellow Flowers: Pointing west, representing change and flow.
- Blue or Purple Flowers: Pointing north, representing balance and wisdom.
5. Placing the Sacred Finishes
Complete your offering by adding the final elements: shredding aromatic pandan leaves to spread across the top, placing a small slice of sugarcane or banana, and adding a pinch of pure lime powder as a spiritual blessing.
6. Share a Traditional Tea & Snack Time
Sit inside our shaded family pavilion to enjoy a freshly brewed pot of organic Balinese coffee or local tea, accompanied by sweet homemade coconut snacks, while chatting with your hosts.
